In 1901, Henry T. sage, the then governor, had signed the California Polytechnic School Bill. It was done after the journalist Myron Angel had run a campaign. As a result, the first polytechnic school in California was established. Initially, it was known as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. It came under the California State Board of Education in 1924.
